  In a field near the river and the old mill dam in Lee Hook is the grave yard
of the family of Reuben Hill, a Rev Soldier from Lee.  Stone posts mark the
yard.  Teh graves are marked by field stones - about a dozen.  See Rev War

FAMILY RECORD:
  Melinda Buzzell - b c1807-8 in Lower East Canada, poss in Bolton, Ontario,
which is located slightly to the NW of Lake Ontario, not too far from Toronto;
she was d/o Joseph Buzzell & ___; Melinda (Buzzell) Lane d 27 Aug 1875 in
Brookfield ae 67y 5m, and is bur there in the Buzzell family plot.
  On 10 Feb 1808 Joseph Buzzell of Bolton, Canada bought from Jonathan Buzzell
of Alton NH for $750, a 50a parcel in Alton, being the easterly end of the
homestead farm which had belonged to his father, also a Joseph Buzzell; land of
David Buzzell adjoined this tract on the west; it was apparently about this
time that Joseph & his family, including dau Melinda, returned to NH fromm
Canada.
  From a listing of "mill girls" at the Dover Library we find Melinda emp as a
mill girl at the Cocheco Mills in Dover at about ae 23, and boarding at the res
of Rhoda Buzzell at 60 Payne St in Dover; she is listed with her sister
Sevestra Buzzell who was similarly employed; in 1837 she was boarding there
with "the widow Busley;" and in 1838 she was living with Sevestra Buzzell
(later Mrs Amos Wentworth); her brother, John Buzzell, is also listed in these
records, and is identified as a calico printer.
  On 31 Mar 1847 Melinda purchased 26a in Brookfield for $125 which she sold
20 Nov 1850 to George Hanson of Brookfield for $200 [Carroll Co NH Deeds 11/90,
17/501]; on 5 Apr 1847 she bought a quit claim title to a farm in Brookfield NH
for $20 from Ebenezer Jackson & his wife Mehitable, both of Eaton; this farm
had formerly belonged to John Giles [Carroll Co NH Deeds 11/119]; on 22 Sep
1847 Melinda bought for $400 one-half a tract (50a) with buildings in Wakefield
from her brother-in-law and sister, Noah Kimball Nutter, mason, of Dover & his
wife Joanna; on 23 Jun 1856 Melinda Buzzell, single woman, deeded this 50a
tract to Joanna Nutter of Wakefield for $200 [Carroll Co NH Deeds 29/200 with
the condition that the deed was void if Nutter pays Buzzell $700 plus interest
in seven years [?] [Carroll Co NH Deeds 31/246]; on 8 Nov 1856 Melinda was
identified as a seamstress when she purchased some property in Brookfield from
William Deland, merchant, and his wife Sarah of Wolfeborough for $900, giving
them a mortage for $700 plus interest [Carroll Co NH Deeds 30/185, 31/246].
  The following month at about ae 49 she m Henry D Lane at Wolfeborough NH 18
Dec 1856, both of Brookfield, per old "Dover Enquire" newspaper; the federal
census of 1860 lists Henry D Lane farmer ae 37 b NH, Melinda Lane ae 47 b East
Canada, and John Buzzell ae 59 b East Canada; Henry & Melinda were divorced 20
Jun 1865, he being the libelant, and the cause abandonment [NHVR].
  On 30 Aug 1868 Henry D Lane ae 45 (s/o Samuel Lane & Mary Dearborn) farmer
of Wakefield marr as his 2nd wife, Mary Wentworth ae 37 (d/o Lyman Wentworth b
Milton NH & Nancy Guptil b Acton ME) of Wakefield; it was her first marr; they
were marr by John W Sanborn JP.
  On 18 Nov 1868 Melinda sold 23a with buildings in Brookfield to William H
Willey of Brookfield for $425; the property bounded on sd Willey's land on the
S side of the road to Wolfeborough that goes over Tumble Down Dick hill,
