1876 in Springfield MA, perhaps at the home of his dau Mary Susan; he may be
bur with his 1st wife (prob in Rochester), but he is not bur with Servesta in
Brookfield NH; the couple had 4 children b Dover:

Paris, a Freewill Bapt Minister of Wolfeborough, to Mary Copp Hayes Buzzell (b
New Durham 1834 d/o Joseph Buzzell & Hannah (Stoddard) Copp); Mary C P Buzzell
was a seamstress at the time of her marriage & in later life was Postmistress
at Brookfield for several years; they initially made their home with, or in a
part of the house of, Reuben Hanson, but later had a home of their own; Charles
Hanson was brother to Susan A Hanson who was shot on 19 Dec 1858.  Children:

  Joseph B Buzzell - b 1837 s/o Joseph Buzzell & Hannah (Stoddard) Copp;
attended the Churchill school in district 1 in Brookfield NH; was a farmer &
master mason; he was Tax Collector & Selectman in Brookfield at various times;
on 29 Mar 1861 his mother Hannah conveyed to him the family farmstead of 80a
[Straf Co NH Deeds 39/385]; his mother, a former Stoddard had purchased this
property from Loring Stoddard by deed dated 27 Nov 1837; Joseph subsequently
purchased several other pieces of property in the vicinity; on 20 Jun 1874 he
filed intentions to marry Miss Irene A Curtis, and they were marr on 20 Jun
1874 at Middleton by Rev Seth Sawyer (a Freewill Bapt Minister); Irene was b at
South Tamworth on 3 Jan 1856 d/o Tristram B Curtis (b NY State) & Abigail
Sanborn (b S Acton ME); Joseph B Buzzell was tried and acquitted of murdering a
former sweetheart; he was later tried & convicted for conspiring too commit the
same crime in a very controversial case; he was sentenced to death & was hanged
at the State Prison in Concord NH on 10 Jul 1879; he was buried in the family
lot in Brookfield; Irene m2 on 20 Feb 1886 at Wakefield NH to Charles H Colbeth
of Portsmouth; Joseph & Irene had two daus:
  a) Ada Agnes - b Brookfield 18 Dec 1874; there is no birth record in the
Concord files, this info was given by her mother in a later court case; later,  
Ada lived with her mother & Step-father in Portsmouth at their home on
Maplewood Ave as shown by city directories which also show that Ada was a
milliner; Ada never married; she d at the Beatrice Nursing Home in Portsmouth,
and is buried in the Colbeth family lot in Sagamore Cemetery in Portsmouth; Ada
left a will dated 31 Jan 1957 [Rock Co NH Probate $41810 421/291]; her death
record, completed by "a friend," there being no close relatives left,
erroneously gives her date of birth as 21 Mar 1877.
  b) Grace L - b 21 Mar 1877 at Brookfield; d there 31 Jul 1878 ae 10 mos
]sic] of lung fever [NHVR & Brookfield TR].

  1874 Nov 6 - Miss Susan Hanson of Brookfield, was shot in her own house
about 8 O'clock Monday evening (Nov 2), from outside, by someone, killing her
instantly.  Joseph Buzzell, who she sued for breach of promise, is suspected as
the perpetrator of the horrid deed [Exeter News-Letter, Friday 6 Nov 1874].

  1879 Jul 10? - Joseph B Buzzell executed by hanging at State Prison in
Concord ae 42 married farmer [NHVR Concord].
  1879 Oct 24 - In the Supreme Court for Carroll Co at Ossipee on Wednesday,
Charles W Cook, who, by his own confession, was a principal in the killing of
Susan Hanson of Brookfield, Mass {sic, NH}, plead guilty to murder in the
second degree and was sentenced to the Sate Prison for 30 years.  Joseph B
Buzzell was executed on the tenth of July last, as an accessory to the murder,
and now the sentence of Cook is the closing chapter in that terrible crime
which was committed 2 Nov 1874 [Exter News-Letter, Friday 24 Oct 1879].
  1879 Dec - Irene A Buzzell, widow of Joseph B Buzzell, late of Brookfield,
declined admin of the estate, and recommended the Dudley C Coleman of
Brookfield be apptd [Carroll Co NH Probate Files #770].

Coos; immediately marched north  and was stationed near Mr Wipple's house;
company consisted of 55 men; served out his time & was disch last of Oct or
first part of Nov; has no disch cert or written evidence of service except the
following affidavits:
  Ithamer Buzzel of Strafford, Orange Co VT, ae 68, states that he is well
acquainted with Joseph Buzzel now of Worcester, Washington Co VT; remembers
enlisting in the spring of 1781 for six months; that he left home and was gone
for about that length of time; that he went to the Coos country to guard the
frontiers; that he returned in the late fall or winter of that year; that he
then lived no more than a 1/2 mile from JB who was his cousin, in New Durham
NH; signed Ithamer Buzzell.
  Joseph Clark of Strafford, Orange Co VT, ae 60, states that he is well
acquainted with Jospeh Buzzell of Worcester, Washington Co VT; was acquainted
with him during the Rev War; that in April 1781 JB enlisted for six months and
went to the upper Coos; that he returned in the fall or winter after guarding
the frontiers; signed Joseph Clark.
