Edward EVANS

FAMILY RECORD:
  Edward Evans - perh s/o John; cooper, recently extric. from Edward (3),
first ment. in the record of a child's birth in Kit., next in the exam. of his
br. Joseph (10 1/2), runnaway apprent. in Boston.  Called a centenarian at
death, the newspapers said he perfectly remembered the revolution against Gov.
Andros which occurred in the last yr. of his apprenticeship in Boston.  List
358d, 1715, shows two Edward liv. on his father's homestead, 'Edward Jun' liv.
on the other side of Back River.  In 1716 in suit on a bond payable to 'Edward
Evins of Dover," the writ has -Jun- interlined.  In 1724 E. E., of Dover,
cooper, was sued on a store bill running from July 1709 to Jan. 1709/10.  In
1726, of Dover, cooper, he bot 40a in Wells.  In 1730, with w. Dorcas, q.c.
estate of 'our father Simon Bussell' (3) in Wells.  In 1734, cooper, wife
Dorcas, sold his homestead (near Pudding Hill in Madbury).  In 1737 E. E.,
cooper and w. Dorcas, both sick, were presented abs. from meeting in Wells.  
Four ch. pf 'Edward and Dorcas' were recorded together about 1705.  The warrant
for Madbury parish meeting 1756 (appar. having come back from away) contans an
article to see if the parish will vote a support for Edw. Evans, or to send him
out of the parish; 1756-1766 numerous items on Madbury records about supplying
E. E., or letting him out; 1757 11s for making his coffin and digging his
grave.  He d/ Barrington.  It is quite poss. that the writer of the death
notice, week of 20 Nov. 1767, found the other Edward's birth record in the
Dover town book.  Kn. ch:
  a) Eleanor - b. in Kit. 3 Mar. (1699/1700?).
  b) Edward - in Dover 23 Oct. (1701?), mar. in Wells 11 Oct 1727 Sarah
Larrabee, and settled with her fam. in the part now Kennebunk. 4 s/ bap. of
whom all but Jacob enlisted in 1756 and were k. near Ft. Wm. Henry.
  c) Rachel - b. 6 Apr. 1703, mar. John Burks, 9 ch. bap. in Wells.
  d) Joseph - b. 29 Oct. 1704, Somersworth, was 'Jr' till his death.  He mar.
Keziah Hall, d. of John and Esther (Chesley).  Suits show a primer in 1733, a
sick wife and 23 doctor's visits in 1734.  Master Tate gives the wid. Keziah 4
ch.
  e) Hannah - 'also likely;' m int. 1738 Tho Wormwood of Wells, 5 ch. bap.

grant unto our loving cousin Mary Busell aboves'd all the right title &
interest we have or ought to have in the aboves'd hundred acres of land granted

  1721 Apr 4 - at the court of general sessions at York the grand joury
presented Mary Busey (and others) of Arundel for "not frequenting the Publick
worship of god" [Maine Province and Court Records 6/51].
  1722 Oct 2 - the court of general sessions at York heard the following
petition from Mary Busey:
  "Whereas I was Sumonsed to appear at York Cort to answer to a presentment at
the Grant jury for not attending the Publick Worship of God I do Humbly Enform
you that the Reson Why I did not atend the Publick Worship of God Was not from
any Disrespeckt therunto But by Reson of Bodyly Ileness and a Considerable
Distance from the Please of Publick Worship and the Excessive Badness of the
way Being in the Winter Season which the Enhabat...(illeg) Know the Same.  and
may it Please the Honourable Cort I humbly Enform you the Reson Why I did not
Come to Cort was By Reson of Sickness and not able to Come and gentlemen the
Reson of my not Coming now to Cort is by Reson of the War and the Dangers of
the War as I hope your Honours Will Consider which I hunbly Beg your Favors."
The petition is signed Mary Busey, but is not dated.
  The court decreed (apparently in response to this petition) that Mary Busey
& Eliz'a Poland of Arundel, who had been presented for failure to attend public
worship, and had been prevented from attending the court because of the great
distance, should be tried before the justices of the town of Wells at such time
as they should appoint.  The final disposition of the case is not stated [Maine
Province and Court Records 6/111].
