FAMILY RECORD:
BLAND, Mr. John, alias Smith was living at Edgartown, on Martha's Vinyard,
in 1646, udoubltedly the John Smith assoc. with the Mayhews in the first
movement from Watertown to the island, where he was always - Bland -. In
Watert. liv. his mother Adrian, 2d w. of Jeremiah Norcross, and there is
recorded 'Isabel, w. of John Smith, bur. 12 July 1639, ag. 60.' The hampt.
Drakes test. that they knew his dau. Isabel Bland from childhood, that her f.
John Bland lived in Colchester, and that his ancestry was Bland, not Smith.
App. his stepf. was Smith. His will made 2 Nov. 1663 names w. Joanna and 'all
the children that are alive that I owne': Isabel, m 1st Francis Austin(1), 2d
Thomas Leavitt. Annabel, m. William Barsham of Watert.; eldest s. John(1).
