Benjamin Cate - b c1775 m1 1798 Joanna Giles; m2 1803-1810 Hannah ___; moved
to Alton NH and then to Stanstead, Que; Benjamin Cate & Joseph Cate (perhaps a
brother) sold land together in Barrington 1812, and bought again together in
Alton & New Durham; Benjamin also purchased in Tuftonboro; by 1816 he had left
Strafford Co, and by 1817 was in Stanstead PQ; Joseph Cate d Alton NH c1828
leaving widow Sally & minor children Abigail & Eleazer; Joanna Giles Cate prob
d 1803-1809; by 1812 Benjamin Cate had wife Hannah; in 1816 Joseph Giles of
Rochester made a will which named son Paul, son Isaac, dau Abigail Otis, son
Ebenezer, and the four children of his deceased dau Deborah (Deborah Cate w/o
Benjamin Cate); the Giles family lived on the Rochester/Barrington border, a
stone's throw from Green Hill where the Cates resided.
Joseph Giles above was b 1746 s/o Mark Giles of Dover; his wife was mary
___; he orig built the farm in Rochester/Gonic when given the land by his
father Mark; buried on the homestead in a large, walled, family cem off Flagg
Rd are Joseph, Mary & son Isaac who inherited the farm; these three are only
extant stones; Isaac d 21 May 1864 ae 79-3-2; Isaac Cate never married, but
willed the homestead to his nephew, Joseph G Otis who was s/o Simon Otis &
Abigail Giles of Lee; I think Isaac had brother Paul who also lived in Lee &
mattied a Randall.
