Richard GLOVER

liv Durham & Lee NH

1700 - Richard Glover of Dover, NH m Martha Moses d/o Timothy of Dover.
Martha b 5 May 1700.  He is the only Glover mentioned in NH, but mention is
made of a Mr. Ralph Glover of Boston who was a patentee of York and had d bef
13 July 1633 [Noyes p496].
23 Nov 1722 - Richard Glover & John Glover, fishermen of New Castle,
gave a promissory note for 17#-12s-7p to Sam'l Penhallow, Esq. of Portsmouth.
Both signed by mark, and the note was witnwssed by Phebe Gross & Abigail
Oborne.  On 17 Feb 1723/4 Abigail King, lately Abigail Oborne, of full age,
depossed that she and Phebe Gross had seen the two Glovers freely sign the
said note.  The Glovers failed to pay the note, and on 4 March 1723/4 the
sheriff was ordered to attache the goods & estate of Rich'd Glover and Jn'o
Glover "late of New Castle and now resident at Kittery," fishermen, in an
amount up to 35 pounds to assure their appearance at the court of Common Pleas
in Portsmouth during March.  The Glovers apparently lost the case because they
were assessed the court costs [NH Prov Ct Rec #20545].
8 Sept 1723 - Martha Glover bapt by Rev Hugh Adams (at Oyster River?)
[NEHGR 32/133].
9 October 1724 - Richard Glover, husbandman (residence not stated),
promised to pay 3#-9s-6p to William Langdon, fisherman of Newcastle, on de-
mand.  When he failed to pay the sheriff was ordered to attach the estate of
Glover in the amount of up to six pounds.  Langdon won the case by default 8
Sept 1727.  The mark used by Richard Glover on this note appears to be identi-
cal with that on the note in Court Record #20545 [NH Prov Ct Rec #21136].
15 March 1731/2 - the sheriff of NH ordered to attach the estate of
Richard Glover, fisherman of Oyster River, to the value of 20# to assure his
appearance at the court of Common Pleas in Hampton in June to answer to Cypri-
an Jeffry of Portsmouth for failing to pay 12#-15s-6p due according the the
following account dated 9 June 1729 at Hampton NH and titled "Mr. Ricahrd
Glover of oysterriver."  The account mentions money due Cyprian Jeffry (12#-
15s-9p), and includes a listing of charges from March 26 to May 14 1729.  Two
items mention sums "pd yo:r father moses."  Most of the items are apparently
purchases of household goods and supplies or clothing.   One line mentions 1
bed, pillow, blanket & coverlet "ye use of them all sumer."  There is mention
of rum "to yo:r wife," and of payments to the doctor, to Serg't Gilman, and
Serg't Crosby.  There are also mentions of payment to "a man Cleareing the
vessell," "fish out of the warehouse," and to four shares of fish (catches?).
Glover was apparently arrested, and Thomas Wibord & George How posted his
bail.  Richard Glover signed by the same mark seen in Court Record #20545 [NH
Prov Ct Rec #14982].
1732 - Richard Glover was in Durham NH in 1732 with 1 taxable head.
There were no other Glovers listed.  [NH 1732 Census].
1734 - The house of Richard Glover is mentioned in conjunction with
laying out a road in the western part of Durham on 29 Jan 1733/4 [Hist Durham
1/230].
12 Oct 1739 - from Richard Glover & wife Martha of Dover, to Timothy
Moses Jr of same, right in estate of Timothy Moses, late of Dover, father of
sd Martha [NH Prov Deeds 24/276].
10 Jan 1742 - Richard Glover was bapt 10 Jan 1742 by Rev. Jonathan
Cushing with a group of other people, apparently all adults, and apparently at
Durham [Vital Records of Dover NH 1686-1850 p147].
3 May 1742 - the sheriff was ordered to attach the estate of Richard
Glover, husbandman of Durham, to the amount of six pounds to assure his ap-
pearance at the court of Common Pleas in Portsmouth in June to answer to
Joseph Nutter, shipwright of Durham regarding an unpaid note for 3#-2s dated 2
Jan 1741.  The sherif attached a chair valued at 3s on 18 May 1742 [NH Prov Ct
Rec #10810].
