Elizabeth "Betsey" UNDERHILL

m 1764, m2 widow Betty Smith

Moses 6 BUSWELL Dr

m 1799

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
  Moses Buswell - s/o Lt Samuel Buswell & Betsey Underhill; b 24 Feb 1773; m 5
Mar 1799 at Pittsfield NH Lydia Huntington Loomis (b 2 Feb 1774 Lebanon CT; d/o
Ebenezer Loomis & Mary Huntington); note that the "Descendants of Joseph
Loomis" by Elias Loomis, 1870, erroneously states that Lydia Huntington Loomis
married Moses "Burritt," and that the same error was repeated in the 1875 &
1908 editions of this work; this error is also repeated in the "History of
Woodstock, Connecticut" by Bowen (2/352 & 5/228), and possibly in other places;
the correct marriage record is on file in Concord NH, and the birth records of
his first two children (born NH), also give his correct surname; the birth
records are also extant in the Pittsfield NH town records, and were also
repeated in the Dexter ME records after the family moved there; Moses Buswell
was living in Deerfield NH in 1790 & 1803; as a young man he became a
physician, probably by apprenticship to an extablished doctor, perhaps even
prior to his marriage; he apears in Anson, Somerset Co ME, in 1810, and Garland
(fist settled 1811), Penobscot Co ME in 1820; Moses Buswell served as one of
the three members of the school committee in Garland 1819 & 1827; he ran
unsuccessfully to be a delegate to the Maine contitutional convention in 1820,
and soon after for governor; in 1821 Dr Buswell was one of only five families
within the village limits of Garland, and by 1830 there were about 70 families
there, including a William Buswell MD, who was presumably the son of Moses; a
church census of Garland in 1829 shows Samuel P Buswell and Moses Buswell as
Universalists; there are many property transactions on record at Bangor for
Moses, William G, and James C Buswell, mostly in the Dexter area; all the
Buswell land transactions are indexed under "Buzzell;" Moses & his family
removed from Garland to Dexter ME where he d 26 Feb 1847 per Dexter records.
