Mr. Towle,

Do you happen to have any information, or are there any published
genealogies on the family of a Captain John FORD, b. Abt. 1740, d. 8 Nov
1824, who resided in the Nottingham area?  My mother-in-law is very
fortunate to have the bible owned by one of his sons, John FORD, Jr., b.
9 Apr 1773, d. 24 Sep 1822.  The bible was published in 1803 in
Philadelphia and remains a treasured family heirloom.  John FORD, Jr.
married Polley GOODHUE on 12 Jan 1796.  The various entries include the
names of John FORD Jr.'s eleven children, their birth, death, and
marriage dates, as well as the names of their spouses.  Surnames listed
include GOODHUE, THURLOW, BATCHELDOR, NICKERSON, HANSCOMB, CLIFFORD,
BACON, BROOKINS, MUNROE, SYMONDS, WHITNEY, GERRISH, and BUTTON.

This query is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I don't think I'm too far
off the mark.  John FORD Jr.'s signature is in the front of the bible
with the word "Nottingham" clearly written beneath it.  There is no
reference to New Hampshire or any other state. However, there is a short
biography about Frederick C. FORD, one of John Jr.'s sons, published in
a book about the history of Cass County, Indiana.  This book was
published in the 1880's as I recall, and it states that Frederick FORD's
ancestors were from New Hampshire.  So, I'm putting two and two together
and assuming that John FORD was from Nottingham, New Hampshire.

I would be most grateful for any help you might offer.

Regards,
Dave Tyler

Laird,

Thank you very much for checking into the Ford family in the Gogswell
history.  Can you tell me more about this book?  Is it large? Out of
print? Where would I be able to view it? Major public libraries? Etc.
Does there happen to be any biography on Capt. John?

For your info, the daughter of Capt. John Ford that married Mr. Gerrish
was Betsey, b. abt 1871, d. 18 May 1816.  The family bible does not give
Mr. Gerrish's first name, so I'm glad to find out it was George.

Regards,
Dave
