William Morrison - b Scotland; moved to Ireland with his parent prior to
1690; m Mary Henry; left Port Rush, Ireland 7 Aug 1726 & arrived in Boston the
following Oct 8th with a group of families; some families went to Londonderry
NH, others to Groton; William Morrison & William Kelsey and others settled in
Nottingham NH. Only son to live to manhood was:
a) James - b 7 May 1725 Ireland; emigrated to Nottingham NH with his
parents.

Among the early settlers of Nottingham NH was a large contingent of Scotch
or Scotch-Irish families, including: Andrew McClary, William Morrison, David
Morrison, William Kelsey, Robert Kelsey, John McCrillis, William McCrillis,
James Harvey, John Harvey, Francis Harvey, William Nealley, Andrew Nealley,
Matthew Nealley, James Maxwell, Robert Beard, Simon Beard, Andrew Simpson,
James Simpson, Neal McGaw, Hugh Montgomery, John Dinsmore, Robert McCurdy, and
Thomas Allison [Cogswell, Hist. of Nottingham, Deerfield & Northwood, 1878,
p.748].
The original design of Nottingham consisted of a square and four
perpendicular streets, King, Fish, Bow & North. There were 130 original
proprietors, 26 from NH, 43 from Newbury MA & vicinity, and 61 from Boston MA;
each proprietor drew a 10a lot at there meeting in Exeter in 1727. There were
also four 5a lots, one at each corner of the square; one was assigned to Gov
Shute, one to Lt Gov Wentworth, one for a parsonage, and one for a school.
William Morrison (then of Boston) purchased home lot #39 on Fish Street from
one Robert Knox for 66#, it being the original right of James Stringer. He
built a house there, and moved his family there from Boston in the fall of
1728. He continued to live there until 1757 when he and his wife took up
residence with his son James who lived on the square. James had built a house
there in 1756. William Morrison then sold his house lot to Matthew Nealley.
William & wife died 1758 about age 74y & became the first residents of what was
later called the Judge Butler Cemetery. James Morrison sold his house on the
square to Dr Samuel Shepard in 1765 for 1,000# & removed to Deerfield. By 1775
this property was the residence of Gen Henry Dearborn and became known as the
"Dearborn Field;" it was owned c1878 by Hon James Butler [Cogswell, Hist. of
Nottingham, Deerfield & Northwood, 1878, p.750].
FAMILY RECORD:
Thomas Allison - one of the Scotch-Irish immigrants who settled in
Nottingham NH; he found iron ore in Barrington, and set up a forge to
manufacture iron until a better quality could be imported; marr a dau of
William Kelsey & had a granddau who was the mother of B F Butler, congressman
from the Essex District in MA [Cogswell, Hist. of Nottingham, Deerfield &
