Subject: Canaan Chapel, Barrington NH.
Thank you for a very interesting letter. I knew your father well, in fact
we were lodge brothers in the Northwood I.O.O.F. at on time.
The Chapel lot was one corner of the Young farm settled by the Youngs before
1800. When David Young died in 1871 he divided his property equally to his
four daughters, one of whom was Olive J. wife of John S. Buzzell. In 1881 John
S. Buzzell leased the Chapel lot to the Canaan Chapel Assn. The lease is
witnessed by George E. Buzzell and Kate Buzzell. John S. Buzzell and Olive J.
are buries in the cemetery next to the home of George and Evelyn Green on Rt.
9.
In 1894 the Young farm was sold by John S. and Olive Buzzell to my great
grandfather, Daniel Boodey. Daniel's son William lived on this farm for a
time, but when Daniel died he left it to his daughter Susan [Boodey, WTR] Gear.
I do not know if John S. Buzzell was a member of the church, and I do not
have a list of the older members. However, the list of those purchasing shares
in the Chapel includes the following Buzzells (at $5 per share): John S. 1,
George E. 1, J. H. 2, Samuel C. 2, S. 1, and Charles H. 1 share.
