abated by the Selectmen on 28 Feb 1846 (Lee TR NHHS Library).

1850 Aug 5 - Concord NH census, NH Asylum for the insane includes:
John Glover 36 m farmer b NH [is he the same John Glover?].
1850 - Census - No other John Glover appears in the 1850 census records of
Lee or the surrounding towns.
1850 - Census - No Lucia A Glover or Tuttle has been found in the area,
and she is definitely not listed with the Stoten S Tuttle family in Notting-
ham, so it appears that she did not go to live with them when only a few weeks
old.  According to family tradition Lucia told of riding off in a wagon when
she was taken from her family, so she must have been at least three years old
which would be consistent with the census data above.
1850 Aug 28 - Census - no Annie Glover has been found, but the David Nute
family was in Dover p 67, 28 Aug as follows:
   David C Nute ae 26 m carpenter b MA
   Lydia A  "      29 f b ME

1982 - statement by Florence Billings of Gonic NH to (her cousin) Wilma T
Regan - My grandmother's name was Annie Florence Canney....My grandmother and J
Westly (sic Wesley) Smith are buried in the Rochester cemetery....Her first
husband is buried in Dover (Herbert A Canney) in Pine Hill cemetery....I think
my grandmother's maiden name was Nute, but I'm not sure.
I think it was your [Wilma T Regan's] great grandmother Delia [Lucia Adelia
Glover] (Auntie Ham to me and my brothers and sister), who always looked
forward to visiting my mother for two months, Sept. & Oct., each year for
several years.  It was when your grandmother (Nora) [Nora Viva Holmes Brown]
got through keeping house for Mr. & Mrs. Crosley that she visited with my folks
for several weeks.
I had two brothers and a sister but they were all much older than I and have
all passed away.  I was born Sept. 20th 1909.  My mother was born in Dover,
Belknap Street, on Jan. 22, 1873.  Rhuhamah, Hamie for short. [Florence
Maybelle Stevens Billings, 1982].

MISCELANEOUS ITEMS:
In her Civil War widow's pension application (1918) Lucia A. Ham (age 70)
states that there is no record of her birth, but that she was born in 1847,
that her father was John Glover, that she was given to a Tuttle family to raise
when she was only a few weeks old, and that she remained with the Tuttle family
in Nottingham, NH until she married Noah W. Holmes (her 1st husband, and the CW
veteran).  She later married Ham.  It is known with certainty the the Tuttle
family she was raised by was the Stoten S Tuttle family of Nottingham, NH with
whom she associated all through her life.
According to family tradition she had a sister Annie and a brother Will who
were also given to other families to raise because her family was too poor to
care for them.  No birth records for Lucia, Annie or Will have been found, and
those few marriage and death records found to date name their adopted parents.
Tradition also says that after Lucia married Noah Holmes, he took her to see
her natural mother, and that her natural mother could not tell from her
appearance whether she was Lucia or Annie.  If this story is true, it seems odd
that Lucia didn't name her mother in the pension application, as well as her
father, but the poverty of the family seems to be confirmed by the records.
Annie was raised by the David Nute family of Dover, NH. She later married
Herbert A Canney of Dover.  They divorced after having a daughter Rhuhama
"Hamie", and Annie married 2nd James Wesley Smith.  At that time (1882) Annie
she gave her age as 32.
Will married Lavina Daniels of Nottingham as her first husband according to
family lore.  He apparently was raised by Charles & Annie Thompson because the
only marriage record found for Lavina Daniels is to William Thompson, s/o
Charles & Annie Thompson.  When they married in 1873 he gave his age as 22.
Lavina later married Jeremiah Chesley of Nottingham.  Family lore says Will
went to Haverhill MA where he ran a garage with a brother-in-law named Ellison.
No divorce for Will and Lavina has been found in NH, but they may have been
living in Haverhill, and he has not been researched further.
There were several Glover families in Strafford County in the mid to late
1700s, primarily in the Dover-Durham-Barrington-Madbury-Lee area with the names
John, Richard, and Thomas.  The only John Glover found who is close to the
probable age of Lucia's father is the John Glover b c1815 in Lee 1850 census,
although two other John Glovers are known, one who lived in Stratham and
Newfields, and one who lived in Kittery and Portsmouth.  Of these, the one in
Newfields is essentially the same age as the one in Kittery and Portsmouth, and
may possibly be the same man.
Note that John Augustus could have been the child mentioned in the
paupers report of 1845.  No mention of John Augustus Glover has been found
after the 1850 census.
Nathaniel Glover is presumed to be the young man of that name who later
served in the Civil War from Milton; nothing further is known of him.
Elizabeth L Glover in the 1850 census above is believed to be identical with
Lucia Adelia Tuttle based on the Civil War affidavit, agreement of birth year,
and the lack of any other possible John Glover for her father.  The family
tradition regarding her, and the fact that she had a sister Annie and a brother
Will is very strong, and believed to be reliable.
Marianner Glover above is assumed to be the woman known later as Annie Nute
based on the family tradition, and a reasonable agreement on date of birth.
Will Glover is placed in this family solely on the basis of the family
tradition, but his birth c1853 is consistent with the other data on the John
Glover family, and suggests that the John Glover family did not break up until
1853 or after.
This family is something of a genealogist's nightmare.  While I feel quite
confident that I have identified the true parents of Lucia A Tuttle, Annie
Nute, and Will Glover, it is all based on Lucia's pension affidavit and family
tradition; all the "official" records found pertaining to these three give
erroneous data, except for that one affidavit, and it is easy to see how a
genealogist lacking the family tradition would be lead completely astray by the
"official" records.
The parentage of John Glover is an open question.  The only record of his
age is the 1850 census, and no reference to his parents has been found.  There
are no Glover households in Lee, Durham, Madbury, or Barrington in 1840,
although there had been in previous censuses.  In 1830 Jonathan Glover was in
Barrington, and Thomas Glover was in Lee, and there were no Glover families in
Madbury or Durham.  Both Jonathan and Thomas have two sons in the 10-15 age
bracket, so either could apparently be the father of John Glover.
Thomas had no other boys in his houshold, but had several girls.  Jonathan
had a boy 5- and three boys 5-10, as well as two girls.  Other records show
Jonathan has sons William P b1820, George W bc1822, and Charles Warren bc1829.
Thomas had a daughter Jane bc1822, but his sons have not been identified, so
neither man can be eliminated on the basis of the census data.
Jonathan Glover married in Dec 1817 Betsey Langmaid (of Durham?).  The death
record of Charles Warren Glover (bc1829) indicates his parents were Jonathan
Glover and Mary L, so it appears that Jonathan had married a second time by
1929.  Thomas Glover m1 in 1809 Eliza Gray of Barrington, and m2 in 1849 Sarah
Leathers of Lee.  If all the data are accurate, then John Glover was probably
the son of Thomas Glover and Eliza Gray, but if his age in the 1850 census is
off a couple of years, he could be the son of either man.
However, there is some circumstantial evidence that John Glover and William
P Glover were brothers, and thus that John was also a son of Jonathan: 1) John
Glover named a son William; 2) John Glover named a son Nathaniel, perhaps
because his wife Elizabeth was also a dau of Nathaniel Lamos (the father of
William P Glover's wife Mary Ann)?; young Will Glover was a wheelwright when he
married, and George Glover, brother of Wm P was also a wheelwright; 3) Wm P
Glover was helping with John's family c1845.  An account of the William P
Glover family found in a 1963 deed [see Wm P file] does not mention John Glover
as a brother of Wm P.  However, that deed also gives incorrect information
about Wm P's known brother George Glover, and also does not even mention his
other brother, Charles Warren Glover, so it is of questionable value.
Note that in 1850 John Glover was a farmer with real estate worth $200.
That real estate value is fairly typical of many Lee families in 1850, and does
not suggest extreme poverty at that time.  John Glover never appears in the
Strafford County deed index as either a grantor or grantee, so how did he get
this property, and what subsequently became of it?  The agricultural census of
1850 might specify how much land John Glover had, but it has not yet been read.
The 1850 census of Lee lists households as follows:
      137/142 Phillip & Mary Chesley
      138/143 Richard & Betsey Randall
      139/144 John & Elizabeth Glover
      140/145 Wm G Osborne
      141/146 Daniel S & Abigail Randall
         /147 Josiah & Jane Randall
      142/148 John B & Nancy Locke
      143/149 Henry & Abigail Stetson
The 1860 census of Lee lists households as follows:
      141/157 Phillip & Mary Chesley
      142/158 Richard & Betsey Randall
      143/159 Nath'l & Rhoda Lamos
      144/160 Isaac Fernald
      145/161 Daniel S & Abbie Randall
By comparing these sequences it appears that in 1860 Nathaniel and Rhoda
Lamos were occupying the house where John & Elizabeth Glover lived in 1850.
Nathaniel and Rhoda Lamos were the parents of Mary Ann Lamos who married Wm P
Glover, and may have been the parents of the Elizabeth Lamos who married John
Glover.
An 1856 resident map for Lee shows the following families living along the
road from Lee Hill past Wheelwrights Pond toward Newtown Plains, beginning at
the cross road at the northeast end of the pond and proceeding southwest:
      P Chesley
      R Randall
      S Lamoss
      Jeremiah Osborne
      D S Randall
      J B Locke
      Mrs A Stetson
Since Jeremiah Osborne was the son of Wm P Osborne, this list corresponds
closely with the 1850 census listing.  However, John Glover has been replaced
by S Lamoss.  That could be a typo, for N Lamos, but probably isn't because
there was a Samuel Lamos living in Lee during this period.
Samuel Lamos m1 1819 Susan Langmaid and m2 1836 "Mrs Polly Glover."  Samuel
was head of a household in Lee in 1840, was a pauper in the poor house there in
1850, and was living with wife Mary in the household of Mary A Glover, widow of
Wm P Glover, in Lee in 1860.  I have no evidence that Samuel Lamos had any
children by either wife.
I strongly suspect that Samuel Lamos and Nathaniel Lamos were brothers (and
sons of Moses Lamos of Lee), but lack proof.  They are both buried in the same
small cemetery near Newtown Plains in Lee, along with other members of the Wm P
Glover family.  I also believe that Samuel and Mary were living with the Wm P
Glover family in 1860 because Samuel was the uncle of Mary Ann, and his wife
Mary was the mother of Wm P Glover, and thus Mary Ann's mother-in-law.  If that
is true, then Samuel Lamos's wife Mary would also be the widow of Jonathan
Glover of Barrington, and that would imply that Jonathan Glover had married
Mary by 1820 when Wm P was born.
The 1892 resident map of Lee does not show any significant correspondence of
names, and it may be that the Glover/Lamos house had been abandoned.  The house
in closest proximity appears to be that resided in by G James, but it seems to
be on the opposite side of the road.
A considerable amount of research on Lamos families in the area has been
done, but I don't think the land records have been searched, and they may
provide the evidence needed to solve this puzzle.
