  Nicholas Harford - dover, shopkeeper; presum there because of the pres of Wm
(4), altho no connec found.  He bot in Dover from Richard Pinkham, 1706; in Feb
1714-15 bot from Abra. Morrell in Kit, oppo his own place in Dover, and kept a
ferry, selling the Kittery land in 1718 to Nathl Chapman.  Kit wit 1727.  Lists
358bd; selectman 7 times 1724-33; moderator 1728, 1731; repr 1732; wife
Elizabeth (appar Jenkins 12) was bound over to the march Sess in Dec 1701,
bondsm John Willey & Stephen Jenkins.  Adm on his est to creditors 31 May 1737,
wid Elizabeth and son Joseph cited; she liv Mar 1769 (Master Tate's Diary).

Nicholas Harford the Libberty of keeping a ferry from beck's slip to Kittery he
keeping sufficient boat or gundelo for the sole transportation of man and horse
over sd ferry for which servis his fee shall be for a single person 2, and for
man and hors six pence" [Quint, Hist Memoranda...Old Dover NH, 1900, pp238];
this ferry ran to what is now known as Morrill's Point on the Eliot shore; in a
later day it was called Morrill's Ferry [Thompson, Landmarks in Ancient Dover,

MISCELANEOUS ITEMS:
  A committee investigating the accuracy of the first book of Dover records
prepared a lengthy list of apparently fraudulent entries.  One of these on page
121 was a grant of 30a to Nicholas Harford.  The committee noted that there was
"no date & the Grant & Petition for sd. grant being on the same ps. of paper &
wrote by the same had & Differs from the record because the Record is Dated &
the originall not" [Scales, Hist Dover, 1923 p161].
